Joining our cast is an exciting opportunity that is open to all students at the University of British Columbia! Whether you’ve studied theatre or dance, participated in musicals back in high school, or just dance to Broadway hits in your dorm, Chicago will provide a new experience that is both challenging and extremely rewarding.
We are looking to cast a minimum of 30 members! The actors will have the opportunity to give ‘em a show that’s so splendiferous, row after row will crow vociferous.
Rehearsals will be held weekly Tuesday, 5:00 – 9:00 PM and Saturdays, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM on UBC campus. Rehearsals begin Tuesday, January and lead up to the performances on March 21 – 22. These rehearsal times may be subject to slight changes, but it is expected that members attend all rehearsals which should not exceed a total of 10 hours / week.
CHICAGO the Musical:
In roaring twenties Chicago, chorine Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband, Amos, to take the rap – until he finds out he’s been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another merry murderess, Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the “American Dream”: fame, fortune, and acquittal.
If accepted, cast members are asked to pay a $15 participation fee. This is a small fee to help support the production, as we perform in a professional venue and aim to create high-quality productions. Cast members will also receive a production shirt as part of this cost. If you are selected but have difficulty paying this fee, please email email@example.com or speak with a club executive team member.

How many people will be accepted into the cast?
We will be taking a minimum of 30 actors and will definitely need a large ensemble.
I was in a previous production with this club and I want to come back! Am I guaranteed a spot in the cast?
Past cast members will not receive preferential treatment in the audition room. This ensures that we are just welcoming and being fair to folks who have never been in the club before!
I have class / work / another commitment on Tuesday nights, what happens if I am unable to make it?
Unfortunately, we require all cast members to be available for Tuesday rehearsals. If you let us know that you’ll be 15 – 30 minutes late every Tuesday because you have a commitment, we can try to accommodate you. However, this may have implications on our casting decisions. Please be transparent about your commitments.
I got a callback! Does that mean I’m in the show?
Being called back for a role or the ensemble does not ensure your place in the cast. We invite more people than we can accept to callbacks so we can see you dance, as this is an important factor in our casting decisions.
If I don’t get into the cast, can I be in the band or crew?
Band and cast members need to audition to join production, so you may not apply for both of these teams. However, should you not be selected for cast or band, you may still apply for crew! All cast and band members will be contacted about their role by January 12th at 10:00 PM. Crew applications close 10:00 AM the next day, so be quick with your application!
